Contamination of a food product with salmonella can have serious health consequences for anyone in Texas who ingests it. The effects can even be deadly for some — most often the elderly, anyone whose immune system is weak and children. For this reason, as soon as a company discovers that it has put an unsafe product on the market that is contaminated with salmonella, a recall is issued.
Overhill Farms, Inc., a food manufacturer and distributor based on the west coast, has issued a voluntary recall of its Open Nature Chile Cheese Enchiladas. Routine testing revealed that salmonella might have contaminated the cilantro used in the product. The frozen enchiladas are carried at stores across the country, and the nine-ounce packages affected by the recall were placed in store freezers between Oct. 9 and Dec. 1, 2014.
So far, the California-based company has not been notified of any consumers falling ill due to the potentially tainted product. Texas consumers who purchased this product may contact the store where it was purchased or the California-based company to determine whether the product they bought is part of the recall. If so, it is recommended that the product be returned to the store for a full refund or simply thrown away.
Some of the symptoms associated with salmonella poisoning include abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea, which could contain blood. However, other, more serious, health issues could arise from the consumption of this unsafe product. If an individual believes that he or she has contracted a serious illness — or has a family member who died — from this, or any other food product, a product liability claim may be filed against all of the parties deemed negligent. Any damages received from a successfully litigated claim could alleviate the monetary losses incurred, such as medical expenses, lost wages, and, in the case of death, funeral and burial costs.
