A 23-year-old man was involved in a motor vehicle incident that reportedly led to his arrest. The man was behind the wheel of a car that crashed. The accident resulted in the death of a 20-year-old female passenger who was traveling with the man at the time. The Texas motorist was subsequently accused and later convicted of drunk driving and was recently sentenced in court.
The fatal accident occurred in Jan. 2014. The man is said to have been socializing with a group of friends at a local club, where he imbibed alcoholic beverages. Excessive speed was also a suspected factor in the accident that took place when his truck suddenly flipped on the road.
The young woman was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. The man recently pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter and one other offense. The potential sentence for the charges at-hand was lessened, apparently, because of a plea-agreement that the judge approved.
A person may anticipate repercussions when arrested for drunk driving in Texas. However, every person is entitled to act under the guidance of an experienced criminal defense attorney. Often, a legal advocate can offer assistance beyond the courtroom, perhaps helping someone gain access to resources or programs that can be of benefit under such circumstances. A first logical step to take would be to request a consultation with a criminal lawyer in order to discuss the details of a particular situation. This would help a defendant determine how best to proceed in court with regard to the pending charges.
